If you’re like me you’ll dread putting your little one to bed, you finally get him/her to fall asleep in your arms and as soon as you lay them down they’re wide awake or they starting crying. Especially if your baby is still just a newborn and parents are still really tired from waking up every 3 hours. Hang in there it gets better!
Well here are some simple steps that have worked countless of times for myself and others.
1. Use a pull down shade or curtains that completely black out the room. The slightest light often disturbs your baby and also gets a less quality level of sleep.
2. Feed them right before putting them down. Often I will bottle feed my baby while in the crib, the milk instantly gives them sleepy eyes and once they’re full they usually fall asleep quickly.
3. In the summer use a fan in the room, the constant humming works like the vibration of a car ride and simulates the sound of being back in the womb.
4. Swaddling your baby makes them feel secure like they were in the womb, keeps the warmth in and prevents them from scratching themselves.
5. Schedule your naps and when bed time is, the sooner they are used to a routine the quicker they will fall asleep.
Try not to get frustrated, as we all know it’s not easy especially being a first time parent. Be sure to avoid leaving objects in the crib, loose blankets and they say to not have the bumpers installed.
Every day you see improvements and your baby is setting new milestones, it’s a wonderful joy to watch them experiment and evolve.
